That Which Is Done In Spring

I find a lot of inspiration in the idea of simply and sustainably living. These ideals are often found to be expressed in vintage gardening paraphernalia, such as botanical illustrations, and seed packets. Thus, the vintage inspiration has found it's way into my art, and particularly into this piece. This piece was specifically inspired by vintage flower seed packets for irises and pansies, two of my favorite flowers. I love gardening and wanted to make a piece of artwork that expressed that.

The snake in this painting is a Gardner snake, sometimes referred to as a Gardener snake. I wanted to highlight the importance of these snakes in the garden by symbolizing that the garden in this piece belongs to the snake. She's a part of the garden and vice versa. She has worked hard to make it beautiful and worthy of admiration. Just like Gardner snakes do in real life. Though they probably don't see it that way themselves, I like to pretend they do.
