Our Soil Will Have Imperishable Glory

Quite a literal interpretation of it's inspiration, this piece came to be because of my interest in mycology. The title of this piece, Our Soil Will Have Imperishable Glory is a modified quote from a fungi and mycology guide book illustrated by one of my artistic idols, Beatrix Potter. In fact, discovering Beatrix's mycology illustrations is what sparked my interest in mycology in the very beginning.

This was the first piece of artwork I ever made using oils, and it is the first piece of artwork I ever made that truly reflected who I am on the inside. I spent years after deciding on a whim that I wanted to be an artist (despite the fact that I seriously lacked painting skills) trying to achieve my goals by painting what other people wanted to see. I garnered the attention I wanted but realized that I was missing the artistic creativity. This painting is the end result of about five years of self discovery. This painting is my courage to finally share who I really am. Because of this, it remains to be one of my favorite paintings I've ever made.

I suppose the bravery to show exactly what you are without hesitation or fear is perfectly exemplified in this piece, as it is simply what it is, with no apologies.
